Both the American Physical Therapists Association and the American Occupational Therapists Association recognize the effectiveness of Equine Assisted Therapeutic Activities.
Students with impaired mobility are able to exercise gently, to stretch and to receive enhancement of current therapies by riding. The rhythmic motion of the horse's gait moves the body in a manner similar to a human walking. Riders often experience increased balance, muscle control and strength. Self confidence, feelings of independence and trust abound as the rider takes the reins into his or her own hands, and is able to sit high and tall on the back of a trusted friend.
Students with developmental, emotional, learning, or other related challenges are motivated by our programs to improve concentration, focus, discipline, patience, empathy and self-control.
Through their relationship with the horse, students develop a more loving relationship with themselves and others. Much more than just recreational, Equine Assisted Therapy is a wonderful means by which we teach teamwork, sportsmanship and the power of cooperative learning to individuals and groups.
The positive connection to oneself, to animals and to others is a therapeutic tool in helping to heal and to exercise the body, mind and spirit.
